The Environment provides the raw materials and space for business and society
to operate. As the model illustrates a more sustainable
business takes less natural resources and puts less waste into the environment.
As well as helping the environment, these sustainable business practices actually make sound business sense. Examining your own organisation and developing sustainable business practices, you will build a modern business - in tune with your customers. You’ll also develop practices that improve efficiency and save your business money.
In New Zealand there are specific environmental laws and regulations that may apply to your business.
These regulations, issued under the Resource Management Act by central government, prescribe technical standards, methods or requirements for environmental matters.
In New Zealand, natural resource management is governed by the Resource Management Act 1991 (RMA). The RMA's core purpose is to help achieve sustainability in New Zealand. For businesses that use natural resources, or have a direct effect on them, there may be RMA requirements to consider.
