Petroleum industry sites

Facilities using, storing or refining petroleum hydrocarbons are potential sources of contamination. In 1993 a working group, comprising Ministry for the Environment, regional councils, local authorities and oil industry representatives, prepared guidelines for managing facilities to prevent contamination of the environment, and for assessing and managing sites already contaminated with petroleum hydrocarbons.
