Snapshot – recreational water quality in New Zealand

The purpose of national reporting on recreational water quality is to produce information that will:

  • raise the level of knowledge about the state of New Zealand’s recreational waters
  • identify national trends in recreational water quality
  • quantify the effect of human activities on recreational waters.

National reporting will provide a useful information base for informed policy and management decisions.

Regional monitoring results have been compiled to present a national picture of water quality over recent bathing seasons (2003 to 2007). Results are presented for:
