Snapshot – recreational water quality in New Zealand

The purpose of national reporting on recreational water quality is to produce information that will:

raise the level of knowledge about the state of New Zealand’s recreational waters
identify national trends in recreational water quality
quantify the effect of human activities on recreational waters.

National reporting will provide a useful information base for informed policy and management decisions.

Regional monitoring results have been compiled to present a national picture of water quality over recent bathing seasons (2003 to 2007). Results are presented for:

coastal sites

freshwater sites
