National Environmental Reporting Forum

Together with Statistics New Zealand, the Ministry for the Environment runs a National Environmental Reporting Forum every 6 months.  The aim of the forum is to build a ‘community of interest’ in environmental monitoring and reporting across the country, by bringing together a national network of people to share technical information and best practice. The forum includes a series of presentations given by the community of interest on new environmental monitoring and reporting initiatives. The forum also runs targeted thematic workshops to ensure that there is in-depth follow-through in priority areas of discussion.  On the basis of feedback from the pilot forum in August 2008, the two targeted workshops focus on how to achieve:

  • greater consistency in freshwater monitoring and reporting
  • more integrated approaches to environmental monitoring and reporting (eg, at the international, national, regional and local levels).

The Ministry has successfully held three forums:

The next forum will be held in April 2010. For more information on the next forum, contact the Statistics and Geospatial team at: environmental.reporting@mfe.govt.nz
