The Ministry for the Environment is looking for three strong team players to join its Programme Implementation Team as:
- Project Manager (Vacancy 1089)
- Senior Adviser (Vacancy 1090)
- Water Programme Executive Officer (Vacancy 1091)
Both the Project Manager and Senior Adviser roles will see you forging and managing relationships with a broad range of organisations - from central and local government through to businesses, non-government organisations, community groups, Maori and iwi. The trust and understanding this promotes, along with your well-honed leadership and project management skills, knowledge of water resource management and attention to detail, will see you solving problems, inspiring action and delivering results.
The team manages programmes and initiatives working towards environmental outcomes.
Project Manager, Water
Vacancy 1089
This is your chance to make a difference in improving the way fresh water is managed in New Zealand. You’ll be using your leadership talents to plan, manage, implement and deliver on a range of projects, working with other departments, with local government and other stakeholders.
You’ll be skilled in managing complex policy programmes at a senior level, and have a sound familiarity with New Zealand’s water resource management, the Resource Management Act and policy development.
You’ll be advising Ministers, supporting a Board of Inquiry process to seek and hear submissions on a proposed National Policy Statement for Freshwater Management, as well as playing a leadership role in developing National Environment Standards and other policy initiatives relating to water.
You will also have supervisory responsibility for support staff, and when assigned, contractors and consultants.

Senior Adviser, Water

Enhancing the management of New Zealand’s fresh water, you will be leading and contributing to projects aimed at developing and implementing a National Policy Statement, National Environmental Standards and other initiatives.
With your superb communication skills and experience, you’ll be advising Ministers, and working with Boards of Inquiry and other stakeholders.
Your tertiary qualification will be backed up by a solid base of knowledge and experience gained in water resource management, coupled with a proven ability to develop and implement policies.
These valuable people skills will be backed up by your experience in working with local authorities, understanding of technical issues, strong analytical skills, attention to detail and knowledge of the Resource Management Act.

Water Programme Executive Officer
Vacancy 1091
As a vital member of the Programme Implementation Team, you will play a supportive role in the development of water policy instruments, including administrative support for Boards of Inquiry. This support may extend to other boards, tribunals and processes.
You will be an invaluable resource to the Board of Inquiry; administering hearings, organising venues and accommodation, receiving and distributing pre-circulated evidence and managing information presented at hearings.
A talented multi-tasker, you will also be able to work autonomously on a range of tasks - including preparing agendas and minutes of meetings, and making travel and accommodation arrangements for Board members.
Your excellent communication skills and attention to detail will see you informing the public about consultation and hearing processes, receiving and recording submissions and providing support for the development and implementation of freshwater management policies.
If you work well under pressure, have a natural flair for building effective working relationships, a sound grasp of computing and information management and experience in administering consultation and/or regulatory processes, this could be your chance to shine.
