Solicitor / Senior Solicitors

Vacancy 1202
Closing Date:  5pm Wednesday 18 November 2009

One permanent position and one fixed term parental leave position until December 2010.  Both roles are Wellington based.

We are looking for two enthusiastic and talented lawyers to be part of the in house Legal team.  We have a fixed term role (covering parental leave) as well as a permanent role to be filled.  Whether the appointments are at solicitor or senior solicitor level will depend on the background of the successful applicants.

The current work programme for the Ministry for the Environment includes climate change action, environmental governance reform, Phase II of the RMA reforms, and fresh water and oceans management including aquaculture reform.  This provides a great opportunity to do interesting and challenging work within a highly professional, high performing and supportive team.

Your role will involve providing legal support for all aspects of the Ministry’s work including drafting legislative proposals, advising on statutory functions, and corporate governance.  Ideally you will have a minimum of two years legal experience in areas such as environmental, public or commercial law, and well developed communication skills.  You must be eligible to hold a practising certificate.
