The Ministry is seeking four highly skilled Principal Analysts to work in the Natural and Built Environment and Climate and Risk Directorates and the Kaahui Taiao Team.

Working alongside and supporting Directors and Managers, you will be contributing to a range of policy development activities across the Ministry and Government.

A key component of your role will be developing complex, broad sectoral and strategic policy. You will act as coach and mentor by providing technical and analytical leadership to staff and management. You will provide intellectual leadership across the Directorate and the wider organisation.

You will represent the Ministry and New Zealand at a range of for a including select committees, cabinet meetings and other public forums.

The Principal Analyst working in the Natural and Built Environment Directorate will focus on strategic policy development for the effective and efficient management of natural and built resources including water, resource allocation and management, and natural resource governance. A key part of the Directorate relates to working across Sectors.

Two Principal Analysts working in the Climate and Risk Directorate will focus on strategic policy development and management of the risks to people from climate change and biological and chemical sources.

The Principal Analyst working in the Kaahui Taiao Team will focus on the providing of strategic advice on Maori and Treaty of Waitangi issues in relation to environmental and resource management policies and claims to the Waitangi Tribunal involving natural resources. You will help teams to understand the principles for engagement and how these can be applied to policy development, negotiations and implementation.

Three roles are full-time and permanent. The role within the Kaahui Taiao Team is a fixed term parental leave position. All the roles are Wellington-based.

You will have a relevant tertiary qualification, highly developed conceptual and analytical skills. You will have an in-depth understanding of the machinery of Government, along with a proven record and knowledge base in policy development, and experience leading complex cross-government policy.

Position description

Principal Analyst salary range: $105,187 to $142,313
Appointments within this range will be based on skills and experience.
